TODAY’S LESSON!

In today’s lesson, we find that a lot of designers are now using wide width fabrics.  Arizona has amazing and beautiful landscapes and who wouldn’t want to have large windows to enjoy that? With that being said, we often see very tall windows from our designers to dress.  The misconception is that you can use these wide width fabrics with no problem.  However, wide width fabrics and the way the weave is constructed often only allows us to run the fabric in it’s intended direction to avoid stretching.  In some cases, these fabrics can be used “up the roll” depending on the fabric content.  If the fabric absolutely has to be railroaded, we would have to fabricate a “creative horizontal” seam to obtain the desired length to avoid stretching.   See image below for one of these creative horizontal seam applications. 

Window Dressers skilled seamstresses can still do a double wide striped fabric with the stripes going vertical by adding a discreet horizontal seam or detail.
